Road Story # 1 - Seattle!

Seattle - is a really quirky town.

Maybe cause I've lived in a city with multiple rivers, and I get to see the main one [Delaware] every day on my commute, makes me biased. But to see a major city make such good use of all of its waterfronts was impressive.

See, yes Seattle is up against the Pacific Ocean [that whole Puget Sound thing], but it also has two major lakes - Lake Union & Lake Washington, and they've managed to keep these two massive waterways useful, picturesque, and functional. For example, no one flies and lands on the Delaware river [aka seaplane]. Very few ferry across it either, except maybe to go to concerts at the Tweeter center in Camden, and thats only cause they built that thing on the far side of the river. But here in the east, we like our bridges [damnit!] and insist [foolishly?!] on taking our own cars.

But Seattle, people live [gasp] literally on the water. Lake Union has something like 1500 houseboats & "water" homes, meaning they are built on pilings. Lake Washington which is larger, probably has more, but i digress. Philly and even NY or Baltimore despite their water access gets no where near the personal access to it Seattleans [think I made a word- call Websters!] enjoy. See houseboat picture:

In fact, I was stunned to learn my cousin LIVES on one of these "water" homes. So, I have to go back!

Other thing I learned in Seattle - you know those totally cheesy duck tours some cities have? take them! I learned more about what to see and do from a REALLY great duck driver/tour guide - Capt Cody! He gets the FINN stamp of approval!

In fact, I have to go back, cause I didnt see Seattle's Underground, go into the Space Needle [though I did SEE it, see!]

, or the Music Experience Museum, or the SciFi Musuem, so its like a requirement that I return ASAP.

More to come - how I hit Victoria, BC - twice :)
